Update on STRs—please send a comment to the City Council subcommittee by 8 a.m. on March 14.
New regulations for Short Term Rentals (STRs) are still being determined.
The City Council held a special meeting on March 2 to hear from citizens and to begin to craft regulations to regulate the proliferation of STRs. Although some good ideas were proposed, the final voting on the regulations will not be held until March 23.
In the meantime, the discussions continue and your comments are needed!
The City Council will continue to discuss Short Term Rentals tomorrow—Tuesday, March 14, starting at 10 a.m., in the Joint Governmental Affairs–Quality of Life Committee meeting in City Council Chambers at City Hall.
Come in person to speak, or simply post your comment here:
(Under agenda item 6, select “#6. Short-Term Rental Matters – Presentation – Ordinance Cal. No. 34,082.”)
Louisiana Landmarks Society supports a full ban of all STRs.
Short of that, we ask the Council to:
Hold the density limit at one per BLOCK (city square). We thank Councilmembers Harris, Green, Giarrusso, and Thomas for their support of this limit. Let’s make sure it doesn’t revert back.
Not add any last-minute amendments to give exceptions to the density limit.
Weigh giving permits in favor of owners who share a bedroom out of their home.
Require the STR platforms to share their data monthly.
