Help Prevent These Homes from being Demolished (Updated)
UPDATE: A WIN FOR PRESERVATION
After an outpouring of concern from preservationists and near neighbors, the owners withdrew their demolition permit applications for 2 and 4 Cromwell Place. Thank you to everyone who took action by calling or emailing City Council! Your advocacy paid off and helped prevent a very damaging precedent had the council reversed the ruling of the HDLC.
ORIGINAL POST BELOW
The owners have requested the demolition of two historic homes at 2 Cromwell Place and 4 Cromwell Place in order to build one bigger, new 7500 sq. ft. mansion.
Rightfully denied the demolitions by the Historic District Landmarks Commission – the owners are now appealing to the City Council.
Built in the 1910’s, these homes, valued at over $1,300,000 each, have contributed to the historic character of the Uptown neighborhood for over 100 years. Located on a dead end street, they are in good condition and are appropriate in scale with the surrounding homes. See the HDLC staff reports here. https://sites.google.com/view/nocmm/2-cromwell and https://sites.google.com/view/nocmm/4-cromwell
Please help by telling our City Councilmembers that you value and respect New Orleans’ historic architecture. Please ask them to deny the senseless and wasteful demolition of these beautiful homes.
